Definition:A Personalized Learning Environment (PLE) community consists of fellow learners who connect on many levels, because they learn from, with, and on behalf of all community members. This global community includes learners who have both similar, as well as diverse, interests and who are committed, responsive, and possess common aspirations for all learners to achieve at their maximum levels. This community encourages, challenges, supports, mentors, and teaches, while providing a safe, protected learning environment.
A healthy PLE community is designed around a compelling idea and sense of purpose. Members of the community challenge assumptions, test out new approaches, and learn together from the results. Also, the community recognizes that all members will be more effective in their work if they are engaged with learning at their own levels.
Finally, members of a healthy PLE community will feel that the PLE grows in value (merit) between and among all members.
