Definition: In every endeavor to create change there are forces that promote healthy change and forces that discourage healthy change. These forces can be found both among the stakeholders who "support" and those who "do not support" the change. Often, these forces are the breeding grounds for influences that undermine the project's potential for success. Significance:As is true in physical health, the health of any change effort can benefit by giving due attention to "preventative efforts." Therefore, the designing of a Personal Learning Environment should include a recognition of such forces as those that might undermine the health of the Personal Learning Environment.
A few examples of such forces that should be "kept in mind" are a recognition that:
Among the stakeholders, both supportive and resistant, will have diverse priorities, motives, opinions, and levels of commitment.
Is diversity given due respect?
If not, how do we adjust?
Among the stakeholders, both the supportive and resistant, there will be egos.
Do these stakeholders have “undue influence”?
If so, what is the plan?
There will be well-informed as well as ill-informed within the active and inactive stakeholder community.
How do we activate the well-informed though inactive?
How do we inform the active though ill-informed?
By paying significant attention to anticipating such "Keep in Minds" early in the design phase and ongoing throughout the implementation phases, threats to the health of the Personal Learning Environment.
